Flow-Tronic (Welkenraedt, Belgium) develops and manufactures flow measurement instrumentation for the water & wastewater industries.

The Flow-Tronic Torpee-Mag (pictured left) is a full-profile, insertion-type magnetic flow meter. Insertion-type magmeters may be installed via hot-tap, which precludes the need to shut down, empty, or cut the pipe. Such technology can provide most economical installations for flow metering within medium and large pipe diameters.

The Torpee Mag features traditional 4-20 milliamp and pulse SCADA signals, as well as the Modbus/RTU fieldbus protocol.

Like most mains-powered magnetic flow meters, the Torpee Mag does not offer native AMI/AMR-compatibility. However, SCADAmetrics is pleased to announce that today’s firmware release for the Model MBE Encodalizer now adds Sensus and Neptune encoder protocols to this important flow meter, so that it may now be easily integrated into today’s modern AMI/AMR systems!

The following illustrates a typical application of the Torpee Mag/Encodalizer pair into a potable water distribution or wastewater system — where both AMI and SCADA signaling are desired:

Connection of the Encodalizer to the Torpee Mag could not be easier: Two (2) wires interconnect the instruments (Modbus+ and Modbus). Configuration of the Encodalizer is also straightforward, requiring setup via 16 integral DIP switches from a lookup table.
