{"id":464,"date":"2015-04-17T12:00:31","date_gmt":"2015-04-17T18:00:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/scadametrics.com\/blog\/?p=464"},"modified":"2022-10-15T16:05:17","modified_gmt":"2022-10-15T22:05:17","slug":"high-flow-alarm-annunciation-with-the-ethermeter-and-the-boone-ia-firmware","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/scadametrics.com\/blog\/?p=464","title":{"rendered":"Updated &#8211; High-Flow Alarm Annunciation With the EtherMeter and the Boone IA Firmware"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><div id=\"attachment_3732\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3732\" src=\"https:\/\/scadametrics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/IMG_0987-1-150x150.jpeg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/scadametrics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/IMG_0987-1.jpeg 2x\" alt=\"James Mimlitz &#039;Slim&#039;\" class=\"avatar avatar-150 wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-150 photo\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-3732\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jim &#8216;Slim&#8217; Mimlitz, SCADAmetrics<\/p><\/div>The Boone IA Firmware is a customized EtherMeter firmware that was created to provide a simple solution to a customer who desired zoned leak detection.\u00a0 This EtherMeter version, which is now\u00a0offered as an option at our eStore, signals an alarm annunciator when higher-than-normal flows are detected from a connected flow meter.\u00a0 In this project, the custody-transfer meter was an Octave Ultrasonic Meter by Master Meter, which features a high-resolution,\u00a0absolute encoder signal output.<\/p>\n<p>By handling the rate-of-flow calculation, and high-flow alarm detection logic\u00a0within the EtherMeter, there is no need for an external setpoint controller or PLC, thereby reducing costs and wiring complexity.\u00a0 It is noteworthy that the EtherMeter can discern flow rate from most meter makes\/models, including those with encoder-type and\/or pulse-type signals.<\/p>\n<p>Essentially, in this application, the\u00a0EtherMeter\u00a0functions as a programmable flow switch, in which the user sets the flow-threshold.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Meter 1 High-Flow Alarm Operation:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When FLOW1 is below the ALARM1 threshold (GPM), then the AUX1 output is low (0V).\u00a0 When FLOW1 exceeds the ALARM1 threshold (GPM), then the AUX1\u00a0goes high (+5V).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Meter 2 High-Flow Alarm Operation\u00a0(if present):<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When FLOW2 is below the ALARM2 threshold (GPM), then the AUX2 output is low (0V).\u00a0 When FLOW2 exceeds the ALARM2 threshold (GPM), then the AUX2 goes high (+5V).<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_465\" style=\"width: 590px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/scadametrics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/BooneIA_Schematic_01.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-465\" class=\"wp-image-465 size-large\" title=\"High-Flow Alarm Schematic\" src=\"https:\/\/scadametrics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/BooneIA_Schematic_01-1024x926.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"580\" height=\"524\" srcset=\"https:\/\/scadametrics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/BooneIA_Schematic_01-1024x926.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/scadametrics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/BooneIA_Schematic_01-300x271.jpg 300w, https:\/\/scadametrics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/BooneIA_Schematic_01.jpg 1673w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-465\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">In the above schematic, the EtherMeter is used to signal a high-flow alarm lamp. The flow meter is an Octave ultrasonic by Master Meter.
