{"id":2241,"date":"2021-12-29T19:41:08","date_gmt":"2021-12-30T01:41:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/scadametrics.com\/blog\/?p=2241"},"modified":"2022-10-15T15:09:55","modified_gmt":"2022-10-15T21:09:55","slug":"comprehensive-flow-control-and-metering","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/scadametrics.com\/blog\/?p=2241","title":{"rendered":"Comprehensive Flow Control and Metering!"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_3732\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3732\" src=\"https:\/\/scadametrics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/IMG_0987-1-150x150.jpeg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/scadametrics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/IMG_0987-1.jpeg 2x\" alt=\"James Mimlitz &#039;Slim&#039;\" class=\"avatar avatar-150 wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-150 photo\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-3732\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jim &#8216;Slim&#8217; Mimlitz, SCADAmetrics<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>A customer recently expressed a desire to utilize a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bermad.com\/app\/uploads\/sites\/17\/2016\/06\/pt9we12-ww-900_engineering_1.pdf\">Model WW-900<\/a><\/strong> device and consequently monitor its performance within the context of both his AMI\/AMR system <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">and<\/span><\/em> his SCADA system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>WW-900<\/strong> is a unique, all-in-one device manufactured by <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vbtech.com\">Victaulic Bermad Technologies (Houston TX)<\/a><\/strong>; and it features both a flow meter and a control valve in one flanged package \u2014 an especially useful attribute when challenged by tight space constraints. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><a href=\"https:\/\/scadametrics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Valve_Meter_01.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"792\" height=\"801\" src=\"https:\/\/scadametrics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Valve_Meter_01.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2245 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/scadametrics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Valve_Meter_01.jpg 792w, https:\/\/scadametrics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Valve_Meter_01-297x300.jpg 297w, https:\/\/scadametrics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Valve_Meter_01-768x777.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 792px) 100vw, 792px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>The flow meter component of the WW-900 offers a pulse-per-volume signal; and its control valve component offers upstream and downstream tapped ports suitable for connecting pressure gauges, transducers, or both.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.scadametrics.com\">SCADAmetrics<\/a><\/strong> flow metering instrumentation in general  \u2014 and the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scadametrics.com\/products\/products.htm#EM100\">Model EM-100\u00ae EtherMeter<\/a><\/strong> specifically \u2014 offer the perfect combination of features to assist the customer in &#8220;gluing&#8221; all the pieces together and achieving his goals.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Primarily, the EM-100&#8217;s is known for its meter input channel functionality; but it also contains auxiliary IO that is especially useful in standalone metering and valve situations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>2 Meter Input Channels<\/li><li>2 Analog Input Channels (4-20mA)<\/li><li>3 Digital Input\/Output Channels (Dry Contact Inputs, TTL Outputs)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>One meter input channel can be utilized to transmit to SCADA the pulse-per-volume signal from the WW-900&#8217;s water meter, providing Operations Personnel with both <strong>totalization (gallons)<\/strong> and <strong>instantaneous rate-of-flow (gpm)<\/strong> data. Furthermore, the EtherMeter&#8217;s two (2) analog input channels can be utilized to transmit to SCADA both the upstream and downstream pressures across the control valve, thereby providing a view as to the proper performance of the valve.
